The City of Amaranthine is the center of the Arling of Amaranthine on the coast of the Waking Sea. It is located north of Denerim and connected via the Pilgrim's Path. It was severely when The Mother attacked both the city and Vigil's Keep, the Hero of Ferelden having decided to protect the Keep. Relationships between the wardens and citizens of Amaranthine are still tense.

Vigil's Keep is an ancient fortress in the Arling of Amaranthine. It was formerly the seat of the Howe family and is now the Grey Wardens' central command in Ferelden.

Kal'Hirol is a great thaig of the dwarves, long known as a center of learning for the smith caste. It is named after Paragon Hirol. It is situated beneath the Arling of Amaranthine. Having been cleared of darkspawn in 9:31 Dragon, dwarves have returned here and rebuilt.

The Wending Wood is an area of forested slopes and lush greenery, divided by the trade route known as the Pilgrim's Path -- named for the faithful devotees of Andraste who walk that very road to reach the City of Amaranthine, and who left ancient relics scattered about the wood to honor Andraste and the Maker.

The hills are inhospitable and barren, in striking contrast to the fertile farmland of the rest of Amaranthine. Violent rock slides have claimed untold lives over the years. Rumor has it that a section of the Deep Roads runs under the hills, and that the structure of these old tunnels is starting to deteriorate.
